freePBX Cross-Site Scripting and Script Insertion Vulnerabilities

freePBX Cross-Site Scripting and Script Insertion Vulnerabilities

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA37972

VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/37972/

DESCRIPTION: Some vulnerabilities have been discovered in freePBX, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks and by malicious users to conduct script insertion attacks.

1) Input passed to the “tech” parameter in admin/config.php (when “display” is set to “trunks”) is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user’s browser session in context of an affected site.

2) Input passed to the “Description” when adding a Zap channel is not properly sanitised before being used. This can be exploited to insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which is executed in a user’s browser session in context of an affected site when the malicious data is viewed.

NOTE: A similar vulnerability is also reported in the “Add Recording” interface.

The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 2.5.2. Other versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION: Filter malicious characters and character sequences in a web proxy.
